Fusion Guitar Lesson

The sound of the Pentatonic scale is often associated with certain genres like rock, blues, country and western, but it certainly has it's place within modern jazz and fusion as well. Tribal Tech and Chick Corea Electric Band were huge influences, as well as Weather Report, Miles Davis and all the jazz from the 50s and 60s I could get my hands on. After I moved to Canada in 1999, I have been influenced by country guitar players such as Albert Lee and Brent Mason, and by listening more to song writers such as John Hiatt and Joni Mitchell.
Each lick is played and then broken down for you to digest easily and consists of scales and arpeggios covered in both Static Chord Soloing 1 & 2. The lines all feature a heathly balance of contemporary guitar techniques such as legato, speed picking, intervallic lines, right hand tapping, slides and much more.



As an educator, Ben teaches private guitar lessons and group workshops in the Twin Cities and in Philadelphia, PA. He welcomes students of all levels who are interested in deepening their foundations in acoustic guitar, fingerstyle guitar, and improvisation.
You play any scale that you are focusing on in the practice room, but instead of playing it in position up the strings, you play four notes on each string, which propels you up and across the neck ascending the scale, then down and back the neck descending the scale.

Fusing jazz, rock, funk and R&B and forged back in the 60's and pioneered by artists such as Miles Davis, Larry Coryell, Pat Metheny, Gary Burton and John Mclaughlin, the genre known as Fusion continued to evolve and is very much alive and well today.
This creates a swing feel and the effect of a long and short note on each beat without actually playing a long and short note. We cover both parts of learning how to play funk guitar, starting with a rhythm guitar lesson, learning how to play funky guitar chords and chord progressions.

This lessons shows you how to make your solos more interesting by using chromatic notes and sidestepping in order to create tension and release.

I started out playing at the age of 13. I got started because it was cool to play guitar, and I wanted to be able to play in a rock band. Easy Blues Fusion Guitar uses a series of thirty blues licks to explore scales, arpeggio shapes in a series of caged positions, mixolydian patterns as well as taking a look at minor pentatonic shapes.

I then play the fill over the B7alt chord to add a jazzy flavor to the lick. I first learned this scale-fingering method from checking out Allan Holdsworth's playing, and later on from listening to Kurt Rosenwinkel talk about it during clinics and workshops.
